Heifer International gives gardeners the opportunity to spread the joy of gardening around the world.
That’s why I support Heifer International, the nonprofit that works to help struggling families lift themselves out of poverty. I first heard about this organization and its unique community development model when a friend gave me one share of a rabbit as a Christmas present years ago.
I knew the whole rabbit was going to be raised by a family to boost its income. It was one of the most heartwarming gifts I could receive.
Since then, I’ve sent many gifts of chicks, honeybees, and goats to help transform families and communities around the world.
Because I have so much to be grateful for this year, I’m donating a Gardener’s Basket to a family. This basket includes tree seedlings, rabbits, chickens, and a hive of bees. Heifer International tells me this basket represents everything a family needs to start a sustainable farm. I know this gift will continue to grow as the family shares its bounty with another family in need.
Gardeners could also choose to send one share of a Gardener’s Basket, tree seedlings, a hive of honeybees, or any number of farm animals that will make a big difference in a family’s life.
Last year Heifer International helped almost 300,000 families with gifts of animals and training–and members of more than 400,000 families received special training that included sustainable farming techniques. Another 800,000 families received significant indirect benefits.
My gardener’s gift is especially meaningful to me because I know I”m helping a family grow its future.
I hope you’ll want to learn more about Heifer International at heifer.org.
